Sunday the 3rd we traveled to the fishing village of Kok-Krai, near the Krabi caves. It is a Muslim community of fishermen who have gotten together to create a "tour" company, with home visits in their village and offer longtail boat/kayak excursions through the caves. It was amazing. We were hosted by Jacob and Abraham on the longtail boat for the day, along with Chai, a guide from Chiang Mai who speaks fluent English and French! We were the only guests for the day. We traveled first by longtail boat, equipped with two kayaks. We used the kayaks once we got close to the caves. The caves, which are thousands of years old, contain ancient drawings from over 3000 years ago, are amazing! Active stalactites and stalagmites, with lush vegetation everywhere. We also saw crabs, fish, spiders and even a sleeping poisonous snake along the way.
Lunch was delicious and we were treated to dishes of coconut shrimp, sweet and sour fish, cashew chicken and a lemongrass soup. Who could eat it all?! We did!
One of the highlights was making a stop back at the village, to wait out the tide, where we were treated to fresh oysters, opened cleaned and served with hot sauce. The community has hundreds of oyster "farms" and also raisess white snapper. Our final stop was to a beach which is a natural hot spring and mud. Mickey and the guys were up to their knees in black mud....good for the skin.
