We had the pleasure the other night of having the company of the Ayara Villa's manager accompnay us to dinner and the evening. She needed a "nigt outside the Ayara" as tourist season is winding down. We started out at a local hangout called a "Mookata". It is 99 baht a person (about $3) for all the food you can eat (and cook) Each table is supplied with a cooking pot or "Kata"(sp) (looks like an upside down wok with grating) that is set on top of hot coals, which are replenished. On the very top of the kata is placed pig fat(just a smattering)and all around the upper perimieters you place your shrimp or squid or chicken or pork to be grilled OR you can drop the shrimp or squid into the "soup" that accumululates at the base of the pot. There are also tables with salads and rice and noodle dishes and delicious lemon lime sorbet for dessert. The room is huge and filled with families...very popular and noisy.
After dinner we went to the Song Bar near our beach where we joined ex pats for several rounds of a quiz or trivia game, the benefits of which went to our various NGOs. There were five rounds, with topics ranging from Thai history, world geography, music, movies, and general knowledge. Who knew that it wasn't Mrs. Noah who Noah sent out to check and see if it was still flooded??? That was the answer of the Ayarans, our team. We came in a glowing 4th place out of 5 teams. Go us!
I have shared some photos below of the Ayarans, staff and friends.
